Panic buying amid the COVID-19 outbreak has caused toilet paper to disappear from store shelves. Now, the bidet business is booming.

“We are, for lack of a better word, swamped,” James Lin, president of BidetKing.com, told realtor.com®. “With all the TP panic buying, we have seen significant increases in both traffic and sales: 600% to 800% conservatively. We’re really slammed on all fronts and running very low on inventory.”

If a home you’re trying to sell has a bidet already, you may find it a golden hook to promote in your listing copy at the moment. Even before the TP shortage, bidets were a status symbol in a home, Lori Miller, owner of LGC Interior Design in Melville, N.Y., told realtor.com®.

“We do believe they will be more popular, as this feature is now being incorporated into regular toilets,” she says. “This allows for space in smaller bathrooms and is seen as a single purchase rather than two separate toilets.”

They are typically more costly than a regular toilet, ranging from $250 to $500 at retail and then an extra $200 to $700 to have it installed. The bidet is popular in Europe, but has been slower to gain traction in the U.S. But in a TP-less society, companies say that is quickly changing
